COVID-19 Vaccine Requirements Update

Updated June 6, 2023 to include a new opt-out / declination option

All incoming and re-admitted students must satisfy TB screening and immunization requirements as mandated by the UC Office of the President by the established deadlines.

Fall 2024 New and Re-admitted Students (including Freshman/Transfer Edge or Summer Bridge)

Critical Dates and Deadlines

• July 31, 2024: TB and Immunization Requirements due
• August 1, 2024: First day of SHIP and UHS eligibility at student pricing; First day to schedule UHS appointments for missing vaccines/titers
• August 28, 2024 (First Day of Instruction): COVID-19 Requirement Due
• September 1, 2024: Late fees for non-compliance for TB and Immunizations (NOT including COVID-19)
• October 1, 2024: Enrollment holds for non-compliance for TB and Immunizations (NOT including COVID-19) posted to Cal Central (impacts Spring 2025 enrollment)
• Late Fall 2024: There will likely be a seasonal flu vaccine requirement, once the 2024-25 flu vaccine is released (late Fall 2024). No action is needed at this time.

Summer 2024 New Graduate Students

Students in the following programs:

• Executive Master of Business Administration
• Master of Financial Engineering
• Master of Laws ( LL.M. executive track )
• Master of Public Affairs
• Master of Real Estate Development & Design
• Master of Arts in Teaching
• Summer Bridge

• May 1, 2024: First day to complete/submit immunization records via eTang
• May 31, 2024: Formal deadline to submit immunization (including COVID-19) and TB clearance records
• October 1, 2024: Enrollment holds for non-compliance for TB and Immunizations posted to Cal Central (impacts Spring 2025 enrollment)

Spring 2024 New and Re-admitted Students

• November 1, 2023: First day to complete/submit immunization records via eTang
• December 1, 2023: COVID-19 Vaccine Policy Requirement due
  • Enter a record of the COVID-19 vaccine or submit a declination request in the Medical Clearances section of eTang
  • Enter a record of the Influenza (flu) vaccine or submit a declination request in the Medical Clearances section of eTang

  Steps to Complete Requirements

  1. See your formal deadline to comply .
  2. Log into the eTang Portal and go to the “Medical Clearances” page.
  3. Complete the TB requirements.
     1. Complete the "TB Screening Questions" on eTang under "Medical Clearances."
     2. Submit additional documentation, if necessary.
     1. Note: only enter immunization or titer information that appears on your records.
     2. You will need to click ‘Update’ on the line for each item to enter your immunization dates.
     3. If you do not have the vaccines or immunization record, you will need to obtain the vaccines.
     1. You must upload medical records in English for each immunization and/or titer that you have entered on the eTang portal.
     1. MMR Measles, Mumps & Rubella
     2. Varicella (Chicken Pox)
     3. Tdap (Pertussis) * updated requirement as of 7/1/24
     4. Meningococcal Conjugate
     5. COVID-19 (includes an opt-out/declination option)

     Please note the following:

     • There are no religious exemptions for the Varicella, MMR, Pertussis, or Meningococcal conjugate requirements per the UCOP immunization policy.
     • TB testing can now be done without regard to the timing of COVID-19 vaccinations. The timing for TB testing after a live virus vaccine (MMR and Varicella) still needs to be one month.
     • Students who are not fully compliant with all Mandatory TB & Immunization Requirements by the formal deadline may have a late fee and an enrollment block placed on their account for the following semester (see deadlines below).
       • Concurrent enrollment students will not get an enrollment hold for non-compliance with TB and Immunization requirements.

       Suggested Timeline for Completing Requirements

       • Collect vaccination and TB test records. To do so, contact your past doctors' offices and ask family members. See our webpage on finding your records for more information.
       • Submit TB screening questions on eTang.
       • Make appointments for needed vaccinations and/or TB tests/chest X-rays.
       • Make appointments for follow-up vaccines.
       • Ensure your immunization and TB records are submitted on the eTang portal. Vaccine records need to be submitted in English.
